Advocate RuhulKabir Rizvi,Senior Joint Secretary General of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has said, ‘Election Commission is one of those responsible for destroying our country’s democracy. We demand that those people who are responsible for violating the constitutional system be brought to justice by law.’
He made this statement at a press conference at the BNP central office in NayaPaltan on Thursday, September 5. The press conference was organized by the Agriculturalists Association of Bangladesh (ABB) to protest the publication of the news in the media.
RuhulKabir Rizvi said, ”A terrible monster has fallen through the movement of children and teenagers who shook the world. BNP, 20-party alliance and like-minded alliances are continuously carrying out this movement. The dictatorship of Sheikh Hasina fell through a backdrop of August 5.”
“Our party is a political party with a deep commitment to freedom and democracy,” said Rizvi, stating that to join hands with the tyrants is to be totally disloyal to the blood of martyrs. We have respect for all religions.”
In response to journalists’ questions, he said, ”In 1997, all media outlets were closed, leaving only four newspapers and Awami League established Bakshal.
This time Awami League established Bakshal in a different way. Newspapers have not been closed, (yet Digant TV, Islamic TV, Amar Desh, Dinkal have been closed) but have been owned by Awami League loyalists, they are working as Awami League’s media all the time. The main function of the media is to uncover the truth and serve objective news. This is democracy. Outside of this, it is not the media, but the media or the tyranny. Media plays a role in maintaining stability in a true democratic country. The only ingredient to develop state democracy is independent media, and that media must publish true and factual news.”
Criticizing the Chief Election Commissioner, he said, ”You announced the results of the election of invasion-robbery alone, why did you not resign? The job was important to you, didn’t you remember the country? The Election Commission is one of those responsible for destroying our country’s democracy.”
In the press conference, agriculturist Shamimur Rahman Shamim said, ”I have never occupied a day in my political life. I have remained steadfast in the path of truth. Honestly, I did politics. However, a mass media has spread in our name. AbdurRazzaq and Naseem, the friends of dictatorship, made this agricultural institution a place of occupation and extortion.”
Agriculturist Rashidul Hasan Harun said, ”The Institute of Agriculture did not take over the BNP, after 17 years it has been freed from dictatorship. After August 5, when the victory was achieved after the movement of the students and the people, the allies of the dictatorship of Awami League fled.”
