Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has stated that the Election Commission (EC) is preparing to hold the 13th general election as per the timeline mentioned by the Chief Advisor (CA) in his recent speech.
Speaking at a meeting on Tuesday at the Comilla Regional Election Office with officials regarding the voter list update and election preparations, the CEC clarified that the EC has not yet finalized a specific date for the election but is gearing up for the timeframe indicated by the CA. Nasir Uddin noted that the election date would depend on the submission of reports from various reform commissions, including the Election Reform Commission. “Our task is on the right track to holding the polls,” he said.
He emphasized that the Election Commission is prioritizing the national election over local government elections and is dedicated to ensuring a free, fair, impartial, and credible process.
“Our current focus is on updating the voter list.
We are actively working to remove deceased individuals and Rohingyas from the voter registry. At the same time, we are encouraging young people to participate in the voter registration process,” the CEC added.
