NN Online:
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has announced that the Election Commission is actively preparing to hold the national elections in February, despite facing several logistical and administrative challenges.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday at Nirbachan Bhaban, the CEC said, “The Commission is ready. Once we receive the formal letter from the Chief Adviser, we’ll finalise and announce the election schedule—likely a couple of months ahead of polling—after completing necessary consultations.”

He said preparations were ongoing even without the official confirmation, adding, “Though there are hurdles, our plans are progressing. We’re moving forward regardless of delays.”

The CEC emphasised that the Commission is committed to ensuring a fair and inclusive election. “We urge all political parties to avoid unfair tactics. The EC is working to guarantee a level playing field and protect the integrity of the polls.”

Nasir Uddin also warned of new threats, particularly the misuse of artificial intelligence. “Misuse of AI is a rising concern. We’re also looking at ways to boost voter turnout. Still, our focus is to create a peaceful, festive atmosphere for the elections.”

Regarding the participation of the Awami League, the CEC clarified that the party’s political activities remain suspended due to ongoing legal proceedings. “A final decision will be made after the trial ends,” he said. However, he confirmed that individual supporters of the party can vote as regular citizens.
