Election Commissioner Brigadier General (Retd) Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah on Tuesday affirmed that the Election Commission (EC) is carrying out its constitutional duties with complete sincerity and neutrality.
“The Election Commission is committed to maintaining impartiality in all its activities,” Sanaullah told reporters following an EC meeting held at Nirbachan Bhaban in Agargaon, Dhaka. The meeting was chaired by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin.
Responding to a question about a movement launched by the National Citizen Party (NCP), the commissioner declined to comment on political matters, stating: “We do not interfere in political activities. The Commission also does not decide the schedule of national or local elections — that authority rests with the government. Our responsibility is solely to conduct elections as assigned.”
Sanaullah added that during the two-hour meeting, the EC reviewed all pertinent electoral laws and regulations. The session was attended by all four election commissioners, the EC Secretary, and other senior officials.
