Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin affirmed that the Election Commission’s sole objective is to organise free, fair, and credible elections, leaving no room for doubt about its impartiality.
Speaking at a workshop titled “Challenges in the Voter Registration Process and Ways to Improve,” organised by the Election Commission Secretariat’s Capacity Building Project on ICT in Elections, the CEC made the remarks at the Bengal Convention Hall in Moulvibazar on Thursday.
“Our focus is on ensuring elections that are free, fair, credible, and acceptable to all-not to favor any party, group, or individual,” the CEC emphasized.
The CEC said, “You must not work in a biased manner during the upcoming elections. There is no reason to fear while performing your duties’ while addressing officials at the day-long workshop.
He also reflected on challenges faced by officials in the past, stating, “In earlier times, officials were under threat of losing their jobs if they refused to act in a biased manner. Those days are over. If anyone favors a particular party, they will face consequences.”
The CEC assured that strict action would be taken against anyone behaving in a partisan manner. “You must act according to the electoral code of conduct. Only then can we ensure elections that are free, fair, credible, and acceptable to all.”
The event was presided over by Sylhet Regional Election Officer Mohammad Nurul Alam and featured speeches by Election Commission Secretariat Joint Secretary Md. Moin Uddin Khan, Additional Secretary KM Ali Newaz, Project Director Muhammad Mustafa Hasan, and Moulvibazar Deputy Commissioner Md. Israel Hossain.
District Election Officer Nasir Uddin Patwari and other officials also participated. The workshop was jointly moderated by Md. Emdadul Haque, Moulvibazar Sadar Upazila Election Officer, and Swarnali Chakraborty, Bishwanath Upazila Election Officer of Sylhet.
