Dutch international winger Romeo Castelen has signed a two-year contract with the Western Sydney Wanderers, the club said on Sunday.
Castelen, 31, joins the A-League club from RKC Waalwijk in the Eredivisie, and will play outside of Europe for the first time in his career in the A-League next season.
Castelen has played 10 times for the Netherlands and has also played club football with Den Haag, Feyenoord and Hamburg in the Bundesliga.
“Romeo is coming here fresh from a season in the Dutch first division where he was a standout for his club. He’s a creative, attacking player, and we look forward to him bringing that form to the Wanderers,” Wanderers CEO John Tsatsimas said.
Castelen said he didn’t need much convincing to join the Wanderers.
“When I spoke to the coach (Tony Popovic) he convinced me very quickly on the project. I am excited by the new opportunity,” Castelen said.
“The Wanderers is a great club, they have a great coach and a big fanbase. I like to play in front of big crowds and I looked on the internet and saw how passionate the fans are. I am very much looking forward to being a part of the growth of the Wanderers.”
