Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Wednesday said this year’s Durga Puja will be celebrated in a more joyous and peaceful atmosphere than in previous years.
“I assure you that this time Durga Puja will be observed in a more organized, festive, and serene manner compared to last year,” he said after visiting Ramna Kali Mandir in the capital this afternoon.
The Home Adviser praised the Ramna Kali Mandir organizing committee for their well-prepared
arrangements to host the celebrations.
In response to questions from reporters, Jahangir said there is no risk of any untoward incident surrounding the festival.
“I am confident that Durga Puja will be celebrated smoothly and in a festive spirit,” he added.
He also mentioned that all puja mandaps across the country will remain under round-the-clock security surveillance, with police, Ansar, and other law enforcement agencies deployed.
Highlighting the government’s increased allocation for the festival, he said this year Tk 5 crore has been provided, up from Tk 4 crore last year.
“During the Awami League’s 15-year rule, the government allocated only Tk 2 crore for Durga Puja,” he pointed out.
The Home Adviser further informed that the number of mandaps across the country has also risen this year.
He urged everyone not to spread misinformation about the celebrations and advised people not to pay attention to rumors. He added that an app has been developed to monitor the exact situation of Durga Puja celebrations nationwide and to take immediate measures if necessary.
On the occasion, Ramna Kali Mandir Committee President Arpana Roy expressed gratitude to the Home Adviser for ensuring comprehensive security arrangements for peaceful celebrations at the temple.
