A pioneering figure Professor Mahfuza Khanam, the only female ever elected Vice President (VP) of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) has passed away at the age of 80.
She was taken to Health and Hope Hospital in Panthapath on Tuesday morning after feeling unwell, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Mahfuza Khanam had been living on Indira Road in Dhaka with her husband, former Law Minister Barrister Shafique Ahmed. The news of her passing was confirmed by Barrister Shafique’s chambers.
By being elected VP as a candidate from Chhatra Union, Mahfuza Khanam created a remarkable history in the 1966-67 DUCSU election.
