The Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU), led by Islami Chhatra Shibir, organized a celebratory procession and distributed sweets on campus shortly after the International Crimes Tribunal delivered its verdict, sentencing former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to death in a case related to crimes against humanity.
Elected DUCSU officials and general students marched from the Teachers and Students’ Center (TSC) and concluded the procession in front of the DUCSU building on Monday afternoon. During the march, participants chanted slogans such as: “Ei muhurte khobor elo, khuni Hasinar fashi holo” (The news has arrived, murderer Hasina sentenced to hang)’ “Ekta ekta League dhor, dhoira dhoira jele bhor” (Catch one by one Awami League men, throw them in jail one by one)
Later, Mosaddek Ali Ibn Mohammad, DUCSU’s Literary and Cultural Secretary, handed out sweets at the TSC.
“We see this verdict as a step toward justice. Full justice will be achieved when the Awami League is banned,” he stated. He also called on the government to ensure Sheikh Hasina is brought back to Bangladesh promptly for the execution of the sentence.
Meanwhile, DUCSU Transport Secretary Asif Abdullah said, “For the past seventeen years, Bangladesh endured abductions, killings, and oppression under foreign domination. Today, justice has been served.”
He added, “This verdict is not the end. That murderer Hasina must be brought back quickly, and the execution must take place. Everyone must stay active on the streets to make this happen.”
