The authorities of Dhaka University (DU) have officially announced a roadmap for the long-awaited Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election, paving the way for the revival of student representation on campus.
According to a press release issued today, the Election Commission (EC) for DUCSU is expected to be formed by mid-May, with the voter list scheduled for publication next month. Following these steps, the EC will announce the official election schedule.
The DU authorities emphasized their commitment to ensuring a fair, transparent, and participatory election, recognizing DUCSU as an integral part of the university’s democratic and administrative framework.
“The university authorities have been engaging with stakeholders regarding the DUCSU polls since December last year,” the press release stated, adding that the administration has actively collaborated with various student groups and organizations to develop a clear election roadmap.
As part of the preparations, a revised draft of the DUCSU constitution has been finalized after six rounds of meetings and has been forwarded to student organizations. The document is now awaiting approval from the university syndicate.
In addition, a DUCSU Election Code of Conduct Review Committee was formed in January 2025, which has since held seven meetings. The committee has finalized its recommendations, which also await syndicate approval.
The announcement has generated renewed interest among students, many of whom have long advocated for the return of DUCSU elections as a platform for student voice and leadership on campus.
