The Supreme Court’s Chamber Judge on Tuesday extended until Wednesday the stay on the High Court order that had suspended the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) election.

The matter will now be heard by the regular bench of the Appellate Division today.

Chamber Justice Farah Mahbub issued the order on September 2, as confirmed by lawyer Shishir Monir in a Facebook post.

He wrote, “The stay on the High Court order regarding Ducsu election
remains in force. A full court hearing will be held tomorrow.”

Earlier, on Monday afternoon (September 1), the Chamber Court of the Appellate Division had immediately stayed the High Court’s order after an urgent handwritten petition was filed.

Justice Farah Mahbub also directed Dhaka University authorities to file a formal appeal against the High Court order.

Following the directive, the university authorities submitted the appeal.
On Monday at 3:50 pm, the High Court bench of Justice Habibul Gani and Justice Sheikh Tahsin Ali had ordered the suspension of the Ducsu election until October 30.

With the Chamber Judge’s latest order, the fate of the long-awaited Ducsu election now rests on the Appellate Division’s decision, to be delivered after Wednesday’s hearing.
