Dr. Md. Ershad Halim, a professor in the Chemistry Department of Dhaka University, has been temporarily suspended following preliminary verification of sexual harassment complaints by students.
The decision was made at a recent syndicate meeting chaired by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niyaz Ahmed Khan.
Alongside the suspension, a five-member committee was formed to investigate the framed charges against Dr. Halim.
The committee is headed by the principal of Sir Salimullah Medical College and includes Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Moniruzzaman, Assistant Proctor Dr. Enamul Haque Sajib, a representative of the accused professor, and the university’s Deputy Registrar (Investigation) serving as secretary.
The committee has been asked to submit its report with recommendations within three months.
