DU Correspondent :
A group of students from the Dhaka University (DU) affiliated Home Economics College took to the streets on Sunday, demanding the resignation of Principal Prof Sonia Begum.
The students initially gathered at the College Gate area on Sunday noon and, after nearly two hours, blocked the Nilkhet intersection in the capital.
The protesting students claimed they were forced out of the college’s dormitory based on political affiliations and demanded the principal’s resignation.
They alleged that they were coerced into joining the political rooms of the hall and participating in programmes organised by the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).
However, they were later expelled from the dormitory by the college administration due to their perceived political involvement.
The students further asserted that approximately 70 percent of the hall’s seats were controlled by political groups, and accused the principal of supporting BCL leaders by providing them with special treatment.
“If the students are illegal, then the principal is also illegal,” the protesters said, calling for her resignation and demanding the restoration of their hall seats.
The protesters claim to have evidence of the principal’s involvement in this situation and are adamant that she step down.
