Staff Reporter :

Dhaka University (DU) has temporarily expelled 128 students in connection with violent incidents on campus during the anti-discrimination movement between July 15 and August 5.

The decision was made during a DU Syndicate meeting on Monday, based on the report from the fact-finding committee investigating the attacks that occurred during the July mass uprising.

The meeting was chaired by Vice-Chancellor Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan. Dhaka University Proctor and Syndicate member, Associate Professor Saifuddin Ahmed, confirmed the expulsions, which were based on the findings of the inquiry committee’s report.

Earlier, a probe committee, headed by Syndicate member Professor Dr. Tajmeri S.A. Islam, was formed to conduct a more in-depth investigation into the expelled individuals. The committee has been instructed to submit its report as soon as possible.

Proctor Associate Professor Saifuddin Ahmed stated that the university administration had temporarily expelled the 128 students. A probe committee, led by Professor Dr. Tajmeri S.A. Islam, was set up on behalf of the administration.

The committee includes the proctor, Sir A.F. Rahman Hall Provost Kazi Mahfuzul Haque Supon, Law Faculty Dean Professor Dr. Mohammad Ikramul Haque, and several others as members. A final decision regarding those involved will be made based on the committee’s findings.

The proctor also mentioned that no definitive decision has been made regarding the disclosure of the 500-page fact-finding committee report. Additionally, a separate committee is investigating the involvement of faculty members in the July mass uprising.
