Supporters of BNP leader Ishraque Hossain announced Sunday that Nagar Bhaban, the headquarters of the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), will reopen on Monday, over a month after parts of the building were locked during political unrest. However, the offices of the administrator and engineers will remain sealed.

At a press conference held inside Nagar Bhaban, movement coordinator and former secretary Mashiur Rahman accused Local Government Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain of violating both the constitution and court directives by preventing Ishraque Hossain from taking oath as DSCC mayor. “We demand his removal,” said Mashiur.

He urged DSCC employees across departments—including health, waste management, social welfare, law, revenue, and urban planning—to return to work to ensure essential citizen services such as birth and death certificates, trade licenses, mosquito control, and streetlight operations.
In a sharp warning, Mashiur declared: “No corrupt official, collaborator of the former government, or ally of he fascist Awami League will be allowed into Nagar Bhaban or regional offices. They will be resisted on sight.”

The press conference followed the partial shutdown of Nagar Bhaban that began on May 14, when multiple rooms were padlocked amid tensions surrounding the DSCC mayoral transition. While most rooms will now reopen, the protestors made clear that they will oppose any new government appointments and block access to specific offices until their demands are met.
Public service operations are expected to resume gradually starting Monday, although the political situation remains volatile.
