A Dhaka court has issued arrest warrants against former Bangladesh Pratidin editor Naeem Nizam and two others in connection with a case filed under the Digital Security Act.

The warrants were issued on Sunday by Judge Md Nurul Alam of the Dhaka Cyber Tribunal, following a petition by the complainant’s legal representative.

The other accused are Bangladesh Pratidin publisher Moynal Hossain Chowdhury and Syed Borhan Kabir, editor-in-chief of Bangla Insider.

Confirming the development, court bench assistant Jewel Mia stated, “The CID submitted its investigation report against the accused, which the court accepted on 2 June.

A summons was subsequently issued for their appearance in court today. As they failed to comply, the plaintiff requested arrest warrants, which the court granted.”

The tribunal has fixed 28 August as the deadline for submitting a report on the execution of the warrants.

The case was filed by Barrister M Sarwar Hossain on 15 February 2022, accusing Naeem Nizam and six others of offences under the Digital Security Act. Following the complaint, the Cyber Tribunal directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to carry out an investigation. According to case documents, the other accused include the administrator, narrator, video producer, and technician of the Facebook page ‘Viral Pratidin’.
