Drug king Bunia Sohel arrested in Mohammadpur
Staff Reporter :
The military and police rescued the notorious drug lord Bunia Sohel (40) from a critical condition in the Geneva Camp area of Mohammadpur, Dhaka.
Following his rescue, Sohel was presented in custody. Two of his associates, Noyon (30) and Rabbik (28), were also arrested with two pistols and six rounds of ammunition.
On Sunday morning (November 30), an officer from the 46th Independent Brigade of the army confirmed the operation.
The officer explained that on Saturday evening (November 29), following information that Sohel was being beaten by rival local groups in Geneva Camp, three patrol teams from Sher-e-Bangla Army Camp rushed to the scene and rescued the seriously injured Sohel.
He was then admitted to Shahid Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital.
Shortly afterwards, patrol teams spotted Sohel’s two associates wandering suspiciously near the hospital and army camp.
They were promptly arrested. Acting on further information from the detainees, six patrol teams conducted raids across various parts of Mohammadpur until 1 a.m., recovering two 7.65 mm pistols and six rounds of bullets.
The officer added that Sohel faces 38 to 40 criminal cases in several police stations. His gang has been involved in at least seven to eight murders over the past year.
After the attack, his associates had been collecting weapons for retaliation. Timely intervention prevented a potentially larger bloodshed.
Following the operation, Sohel was formally arrested under police guard at the hospital.
The seized weapons and the two associates have been handed over to the Mohammadpur police station.
