Chattogram Bureau :

The price of rice has increased in the wholesale and retail markets in Chattogram despite having sufficient stock and supply. In the wholesale markets, the rate has increased from Tk150 to Tk200 per bag. For this reason, the Chattogram district administration has conducted an operation to control the rice markets.
District Administration Executive Magistrate Umar Farooq and Prateek Dutt conducted the raid on Monday (January 15) to collect rice in Pahartali market of the Port City.
At that time, the owner of a stall was fined Tk10,000 for not being able to show the license. In addition, several dealers were warned about the stockpile.
In destabilizing the rice market, allegations have been made against rice millers (millers) and traders. Millers and artisans are gradually releasing rice in the market. As the supply is less than the demand, an artificial crisis is created, which increases the price of rice.
Executive Magistrate Umar Farooq said, “We conducted the mobile court today on the instructions of Chattogram District Commissioner. According to the information received by us, besides the traders, many people are creating artificial crisis in the market by stocking paddy and rice without trade license or license. Vigilance arrangements are being made against these businessmen hoarding paddy and rice.”
