Chattogram Bureau :
Water Development Board is running dredging activities in Karnaphuli. Their dredged sand is being dumped in the river in East Sarafbhata area of Sarafbhata union of Rangunia upazila.
It has created a beautiful stream along the river bank where ordinary people were seen coming from different areas in the afternoon. The residents of the bank also expressed their satisfaction with the dumping of sand near the Nidrinaksha block across the bank. However, local residents have demanded permanent protection of fodder by throwing sand up to the godown.
It is known that with the initiative of Minister of Information Hasan Mahmud, after 2008, blocks have been set up from East Sarafbhata to Godown at a cost of about 200 crores.
As a result, erosion is prevented and char is raised over a large area of Karnaphuli through the eastern Sarafbhata area.
But it could be seen only during low tide. Recently, when Karnaphuli dredging started, blocks started collapsing in some areas.
