JULY upsurge: Draft of 708 killed individuals published

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has released a draft list of 708 individuals who were killed during the anti-discrimination student protests in July and August.

The names, fathers’ names, mobile numbers, addresses, birth dates, and national identity card (NID) numbers of the deceased have been included in the draft list, according to the ministry.

Corrections, additions, or deletions can be made if there are errors in the data. Those whose information is missing can also have it added.

This announcement was made in a public notice by the ministry on Tuesday afternoon.

The ministry also stated that claims of over 1,400 deaths are unverified and not confirmed figures.

The draft list of deceased individuals, collected from various public and private hospitals as well as district levels, has been published on the websites of the Health Service Division (www.hsd.gov.bd) and the Directorate General of Health Services (www.dghs.gov.bd).

It is mentioned that the data will be open for public access from
September 23 to October 6 for verification, correction, or completion by family members or representatives of the deceased.

The ministry has requested any opinions, suggestions, or new data regarding the published list to be communicated to the respective hospitals or nearby government hospitals.

Family members or representatives of the deceased must register using their national identity card (NID)/birth registration and mobile number.

After registration, they should download and print the information of the deceased.

They have to fill in any missing information on the printed form.With the completed form, they should visit the relevant hospital or nearby government hospital for assistance in correcting the information.

The responsible personnel at the institution will submit the completed form online to update the information. The updated information can be re-verified on the website.

If any deceased individual from the recent protests is not listed, family members or representatives are requested to contact the relevant deputy commissioner, civil surgeon, upazila nirbahi officer, or upazila health and family planning officer with appropriate evidence.
