Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen stated that several Nobel Laureates have faced imprisonment for their wrongdoings, emphasising that being a laureate does not exempt them from accountability for their actions.
He went on to express that Nobel Laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus should adhere to the country’s laws and need not be concerned if he remains free from any criminal activities.
On the occasion of the Prime Miniser Sheikh Hasina’s visit to the New York to attend the 78th Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations, Dr Momen made the remarks in reply to the question over the cases of Dr Yunus and the statement issued by the distinguished world leaders and personalities.
“There are examples in the world that a number of Nobel Laureate has been landed in jail for their wrongdoings.
It is not right to assume that a Nobel Laureate is an angel.
It is not correct that Nobel Laureates are above all crimes.
It is unfortunate not to have confidence in the laws of the land,” he said.
