This communication comes after the formation of an interim government in Bangladesh on August 8, following the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s administration amidst a student-led uprising. Dr. Muhammad Yunus, a Nobel laureate, was appointed as the Chief Adviser of the interim government. On the day of his swearing-in, Modi had sent his best wishes to Dr. Yunus through a post on X.

Regarding Friday’s phone call, the Indian Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) emphasized that Prime Minister Modi highlighted India’s commitment to supporting the people of Bangladesh through various development initiatives. He also stressed the importance of ensuring the safety and security of all minority communities in Bangladesh, including the Hindu population.

Dr. Yunus, in his role as the Chief Adviser of the interim government, assured Prime Minister Modi that the interim administration would prioritize the protection and security of the Hindu community and all other minority groups in Bangladesh.

The two leaders also discussed ways to advance bilateral relations in alignment with the national interests of both India and Bangladesh, according to the statement from the Indian PMO.
