NN Report

A sensational political scandal has erupted over the case of Dr. Khandaker Rahat Hossain, a high-profile detainee now accused of exploiting his hospitalization at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (PG Hospital) to conduct illegal activities — all allegedly under the protection of retired Captain Abdus Sabur Khan.

Rahat, cousin to former minister Amir Hossain Amu, was arrested on 22 May near Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport under serious allegations including anti-state conspiracy, inciting equity market unrest, and laundering vast sums overseas. His bail, initially denied, was reportedly secured through heavy bribery routed via prominent lawyer Advocate Z.I. Khan Panna — acting, sources claim, on behalf of Sabur Khan.

According to insiders, Sabur Khan, the disgraced ex-chairman of Global Heavy Chemicals Ltd. (GHCL), leveraged his shadowy political networks to bypass due legal process. Evidence points to Rahat’s hospital transfer being a calculated maneuver, allowing him to avoid regular prison and continue illegal political coordination from a protected environment.

Witnesses and whistleblowers allege that Rahat is using mobile phones within the PG Hospital prison ward to maintain contact with associates and extend his political reach. This has sparked public outrage, as the case increasingly appears to expose a broader pattern of elite impunity — with power and privilege used to manipulate the justice system from within.

Further complicating the case is the involvement of Rahat’s brother-in-law, Imran — former United Airways owner — who now resides luxuriously in London, allegedly after laundering hundreds of crores through fraudulent loans tied to both GHCL and private banking channels.

Public calls for justice are intensifying. Many now demand: 1. Immediate cancellation of Dr. Rahat’s bail.

2. A sweeping investigation into Sabur Khan’s financial and political networks, including GHCL and United Airways.

3. Internal action against complicit officials in the Attorney General’s Office.

4. Strict enforcement within PG Hospital’s prison ward to prevent political exploitation.

As pressure mounts, the government faces a key test of transparency and accountability. Will the nexus of political protection and judicial manipulation finally be dismantled — or will Rahat’s hospital cell remain a symbol of elite impunity?
