The Dhaka Premier Division Women’s Cricket League (DPDWCL) will begin today at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in the capital’s Mirpur.
Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited will take on Mirpur Boys Cricket Club in the inaugural match of the DPDWCL, which will start at 9.00am.
The match campaign of Bangladesh National Women’s Cricket squad came to an end recently. But the female cricketers took part in the practice session under new Head Coach Sarwar Imran at the ‘Home of Cricket’ on Tuesday.
The Trophy unveiled programme of DPDWCL was held at the SBNCS on Tuesday. A total of nine teams are taking part in the DPDWCL.
Nigar Sultana Joty will lead the Mirpur Boys Cricket Club. Nigar Sultana Joty said to the newsmen on Tuesday.
Cricfrenzy added that Joty said : “Female cricketers often face injustice because we don’t always get to play regular cricket. This is my first league match in Mirpur since 2011. If we don’t get enough domestic matches, players struggle to push themselves and compete at the national level.”
Calling the DPL a crucial tournament, Joty emphasised its importance ahead of the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup qualifiers.
“This tournament is very important for us because the World Cup qualifiers are coming up. During our recent four-day training camp, we were all advised to use this league as preparation for the qualifiers,” she added.
