DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali has said that the police are taking a tough stance to prevent the Awami League’s Hartal- strike. Assuring the people of the capital, he said, ‘You should not panic. Nothing will happen during the strike.’
On Monday, he said this to the journalists after inaugurating the renovated office of the Deputy Police Commissioner of Tejgaon Division which was burnt during the July movement.
In response to a question about the Awami League’s call for a Hartal-strike over February 18 (Tuesday), what is the police’s position on it? Sajjat Ali said, “It can be seen on Facebook that the fascist Awami League has called for a strike on Tuesday.
We have taken strict security measures in the entire capital. We are prepared. We are working on it. In the past, they (Awami League) have given such programs on Facebook, and we have also dealt with them.”
The Commissioner, claiming that the law and order situation has improved from before, said, “Some groups are blocking roads with isolated demands. However, kidnappings or other crimes have decreased. If they had increased, the media would have reported it.”
He said, “Now our big problem is that various groups are taking to the streets with various demands. They are blocking traffic and causing people to suffer. I have directly told the protesters that you should not block the roads.
This causes various hardships to many people, including ambulances carrying patients. The road cannot be the place to make demands.
Go to the relevant office and sit at the table to resolve the demands. Making demands by making Dhaka residents suffer on the roads is a shocking incident.”
