Staff Reporter :

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Md. Mahmudul Hasan has issued a stern warning against dishonest groups engaging in irregularities in the birth registration process.

Speaking at the second meeting of a committee formed by the Local Government Division to oversee the city corporation’s activities, Mahmudul Hasan stressed the need for a smooth and efficient birth registration system.

“Everyone involved must act responsibly to ensure the process runs seamlessly. Strict action will be taken against individuals found guilty of corruption or irregularities in birth registration or other certification processes. DNCC magistrates will conduct mobile courts to address these issues,” he stated.

Addressing public health concerns, he noted, “Despite being November, dengue cases remain a problem. Regular mosquito control measures must continue, with intensified supervision.”

He also urged citizens to maintain cleanliness in their homes and surroundings to prevent the spread of diseases. To enhance governance, a 25-member committee has been formed by the Local Government Division of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives.

The committee, led by the DNCC administrator and with the chief executive officer as its member-secretary, comprises officers from various organisations and departments.

Established under the Local Government (City Corporation Amendment) Ordinance 2024, the committee will support the administrator in executing his responsibilities. It will also assume duties previously carried out by councillors, as outlined in Section 25A of the ordinance.
