The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has called on residents to dispose of waste responsibly in an effort to keep the city clean and livable.

Speaking at an event to inaugurate the construction of a new road, drainage system, and footpath in Polashnagar under Mirpur Section-11 today, DNCC Administrator Mohammad Azaz urged citizens not to throw garbage indiscriminately.

“I urge all of you to avoid throwing waste haphazardly. Please keep your society clean,” Azaz said.
The DNCC plans to construct 11 kilometers of road, 35 kilometers of drainage, and 13 kilometers of footpath across wards 2, 3, 4, and 5 under its jurisdiction.

Drawing comparisons between Bangladesh and developed countries, Azaz noted, “In the developed world, you won’t see garbage scattered across streets. Unfortunately, in our cities, waste management remains a serious issue.”

He highlighted that DNCC conservancy staff work tirelessly from night until 8:00 am daily, collecting approximately eight lakh tonnes of garbage from across Dhaka’s two city corporations. He requested that residents deposit their waste at designated points to facilitate smoother collection.

Azaz also encouraged house owners to establish rooftop gardens, announcing that DNCC is considering offering incentives for such initiatives.
