DMP arrests 186 in 24-hour citywide crackdown

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 186 individuals in connection with 33 cases during a 24-hour drive aimed at strengthening public safety and law enforcement across the capital.

According to the DMP Crime Command and Control Centre, 471 patrol teams were deployed in two shifts between 12:01 am Monday and 11:59 pm Tuesday across all 50 police station areas. The operation included 259 night patrols, 212 daytime patrols, 20 foot patrols, 27 motorcycle patrols, and 212 mobile units. Additionally, 66 police checkposts were set up at key city points.

Among those arrested were a robber, five thieves, 13 drug peddlers, two fraudsters, and 12 individuals with outstanding warrants, said DMP Media and Public Relations Deputy Commissioner Talebur Rahman.

Police also recovered 11 stolen mobile phones, a bus, and Tk 13,180 in cash. Seized illegal substances included 10,065 yaba tablets, 1.04 kg of cannabis, 74 bottles of phensedyl, and one gram of heroin.

A total of 33 criminal cases were filed during the operation, and legal proceedings are underway against the suspects.

Meanwhile, DMP’s eight traffic divisions issued 2,845 citations for traffic violations. Of the vehicles penalized, 282 were dumped and 92 were towed.

The DMP reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safe movement of residents throughout Dhaka.
