A divisional seminar on ‘What to do in implementing the Smoking and Tobacco Use (Control) Act’ was held in Rangpur. Rangpur Divisional Commissioner Md. Shahidul Islam was present as the chief guest at the seminar held at the conference room of the Rangpur Divisional Commissioner’s Office on Tuesday morning (June 3). The Rangpur Divisional Commissioner’s Office organized this divisional seminar.

In his speech as the chief guest, the Divisional Commissioner said that consuming tobacco products is a habit. Despite knowing its harmful effects, people consume it. It is difficult to suppress the habit.

However, it can be controlled. As a result of the Smoking and Tobacco Use (Control) Act, the prevalence of smoking has decreased. Regarding tobacco cultivation, he said that tobacco cultivation poisons the soil.

This has an impact on other agricultural crops. Therefore, all concerned should play a responsible role in discouraging farmers from cultivating tobacco.

Abdul MotalebSarkar and special guests included Rangpur Range DIG Police Superintendent (Traffic and Operations) BM AsharafUllahTaher, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Additional Police Commissioner NareshChakma, Rangpur Division Deputy Director Dr. Md. Wazed Ali, Rangpur Civil Surgeon’s Office Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. Ruhul Amin, among others.
