Sylhet Bureau :
A views exchange meeting was held with Divisional Commissioner of Sylhet Khan Md. Reza-un-Nabi and Sylhet Press Club journalists .
The meeting held at the hall of the Divisional Commissioner’s office on Thursday (June 12) afternoon, journalist leaders informed him about the increasing misdeeds of the Bhooiphon journalist organization in Sylhet and their misreporting.
At this time, journalist leaders said that various organizations are being formed in different places of the country including Sylhet under different names and identities. Basically, some opportunistic people are trying to take immoral benefits by using the names of these organizations. This evil circle is trying to achieve their personal interests by using the name of journalism. As a result, healthy and professional journalism is being hindered. Everyone must be vocal now to stop this practice.
In the exchange of views, journalist leaders also said that during the previous Awami League government, not only at the individual level, many organizations were formed to strengthen fascism. Fascism has been encouraged from the institutional level. Going beyond the standards and professionalism of journalism, they have established dominance under the umbrella of the then ruling party. They are still in power and are behaving unprofessionally.
Sylhet Press Club leaders called on the administration to be aware of these fake and amateur journalist organizations. They sought effective cooperation from the administration in this regard and said that if misjournalism and their sponsors are not identified, the state and society will be severely affected along with mainstream journalism. Therefore, these miscreants must be stopped now.
In response, Divisional Commissioner Khan Md. Reza-un-Nabir said that in the past 18 years, many have done journalism beyond principles and ethics to strengthen fascism.
Where injustice is supposed to be resisted, it has been encouraged. We do not want this anymore. Journalism should be done on the basis of a specific policy while maintaining the standards of professionalism.
He said, fascism had been on the shoulders of the nation in the past. Many are responsible for this. Many could not protest due to fear of losing their jobs. But some have promoted the dictatorial government and given it strength. We have to be careful about them. He listened patiently to the statements of the Sylhet Press Club leaders and assured that he would inform the higher authorities about their concerns.
