Discussion meeting held to curb illegal fuel sales in Siddhirganj

A discussion meeting was held in Siddhirganj, Narayanganj Sadar Upazila, to determine actions needed to stop the illegal sale of fuel near the Godnail depots of Padma Oil Company Limited and Meghna Petroleum Limited.
The meeting took place on Thursday (April 24) at the Godnail depot of Padma Oil Company Limited. It was chaired by Mr. Md. Abdul Kader, Director (Marketing) of Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) and a Joint Secretary of the Government.
Mr. Md. Al Amin, Manager (Marketing) of BPC, conducted the meeting, while the welcome speech was delivered by Engineer Md. Abdus Sobhan, Managing Director of Padma Oil Company Limited.
Speakers at the meeting included Mr. Md. Akil Bhuiyan, Md. Fazlul Haque, Md. Anwar Hossain Mehdi, Md. Saijuddin Matbor, Mr. Kamal Biswas, Md. Milon Bhuiyan, Mr. Md. Ismail, workers’ representative Haji Md. Zahid Hossain, and Mr. S. M. Aslam, among others.
Meghna Petroleum’s Managing Director Mr. Md. Tipu Sultan and BPC’s General Manager (Marketing) Mr. Mohammad Zahid Hossain also addressed the gathering. Other notable attendees included RAB Senior Assistant Director Mr. Md. Shams, Siddhirganj Assistant Commissioner (Land) Ms. Debjani Kar, Additional Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Mr. Md. Sohel Rana, and Additional District Magistrate Ms. Nilufa Yasmin.
A unanimous decision was made to take necessary steps to shut down illegal and unauthorized fuel-selling activities near the state-owned depots of Padma Oil and Meghna Petroleum. All concerned associations agreed to take effective measures within 15 days to remove these unauthorized businesses voluntarily. Otherwise, eviction operations and mobile court drives will be carried out by the district administration under ministry directives.
The owners’ association also agreed to provide official appointment letters to the tanker truck drivers transporting fuel. In addition, they assured the installation and proper functioning of Vehicle Tracking Systems (VTS) in all transport vehicles.
Senior officials and depot in-charges of both Padma Oil Company Limited and Meghna Petroleum were present at the meeting.
