Dirty politics over use of Shaheed Minar: Rafiqul

UNB, Dhaka :BNP standing committee member Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mian on Thursday accused the authorities concerned of playing dirty politics over the use of the highly regarded premises of the Central Shaheed Minar in the capital.”The Central Shaheed Minar has been used for long by the parties believing in different ideologies, but now a conspiracy is on to restrict its use on political consideration,” he said, referring to the instance of Brac University Professor Piash Karim who died of cardiac disease recently.The BNP leader came up with the views while addressing a discussion arranged by Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) at the Jatiya Press Club.Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mian also alleged that the government is engaged in a conspiracy to destroy BNP through filing cases one after another against its leaders and activists while withdrawing cases against ruling Awami League leaders and workers including its chief Sheikh Hasina.He said, the nation want to see legal action taken against Abdul Latif Siddiqui by bringing him back immediately via Interpol and put him in the dock.Chaired by DAB vice president Dr M Salam, the discussion was also addressed by former Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University Prof Emajuddin Ahmed and DAB secretary general Dr MA Zahid.
