It is worrying that the issue of dirt, bad smell and various bacteria in Dhaka WASA water has been under discussion for a long time but the problem has not been solved yet.

It is known that this problem has been prevailing in various areas of the capital.

The persons’ responsible claim that Dhaka WASA water is not polluted; the dirt, stench or insects are caused by the reservoirs of their respective houses. Dhaka WASA authorities have made such claims in the past as well.

Many customers have complained that they have cleaned their water tanks as instructed by WASA but have not received any results.

Reportedly, most of the city dwellers have stopped drinking water due to the contamination of the water supplied by Dhaka WASA.

They only use this water for washing, cooking and bathing. However, the low-income people are forced to use this water for drinking and various other purposes.

According to a newspaper report, some areas of the capital are without water for most of the day.

Such a situation is unacceptable in the scorching heat of summer. Even without getting clean water, citizens are paying WASA water bills regularly.

Dhaka WASA cannot avoid the responsibility of providing such dirt, bad smell water. The authorities should pay attention to why this long-standing crisis is not being resolved?

Experts say, consumption of contaminated water can cause various diseases.

According to Icddr’b, every year, a significant number of diarrhea patients from Jatrabari, Sayedabad, ShanirAkhra, Mohammadpur, Tongi and Uttara areas are admitted to this hospital.

The number of patients admitted to this hospital makes it clear that the quality of water supplied to the capital is poor.

Many people boil water and drink it, but due to improper processing, city dwellers are suffering from various diseases.

Although the authorities call the water supplied through pipelines ‘safe’, it is being polluted in various ways every day.

There are allegations that during unplanned road excavations in the capital, sewage and water lines are damaged, polluting the water.

There are also allegations of corruption against Dhaka WASA. It is expected that Dhaka WASA will take appropriate steps to provide pure drinking water to the city dwellers. Therefore, it must be ensured that water lines are not damaged.

In fact, the overall quality of service at this institution is disappointing. We hope that the authorities would take effective steps quickly to overcome this situation.
