The authorities of Dhaka Public School and College, located in the city’s Dhanmondi area, have allegedly “cheated” several HSC candidates by taking a significant amount of money from their guardians but failing to provide admit cards to the students.
Guardians of around 12 candidates reported that they paid Tk 70,000 to 100,000 for form fill-up purposes, but the college authorities have “cheated” them.
The aggrieved students and their guardians are seeking justice and have urged the Dhaka Education Board to take action against the college authorities. These HSC examinees were irregular students from other educational institutions like Scholar’s and Daffodil.
The guardians expressed that a valuable year of these students’ lives has been lost due to such “fraudulence.”
“My son Juboraj applied to attend the HSC examination through Dhaka Public School and College. We paid Tk 65,000, even though the principal initially said they would charge Tk 40,000.
Despite paying all the fees, my son could not obtain an admit card and has failed to attend the exam,” Lily Hossain, mother of Juboraj, told the New Nation on Monday.
“One valuable year has been lost from his life. We want exemplary punishment for the responsible persons of the college,” she added.
On Monday (July 2), the aggrieved guardians met with the Chairman of the Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board in Dhaka to lodge a complaint regarding a recent fraud.
After the meeting, one of the guardians, Tasmina Khatun, spoke to The New Nation, stating that the board authorities have assured them that an investigation will be conducted.
“We have lodged our complaint with the Board Chairman. He has listened to us and assured us that action will be taken after an investigation,” she said.
Khatun expressed her concern about the impact on their children and emphasized the need for future prevention. “What has happened to our children cannot be undone.
But we want to ensure that no other students face the same consequences in the future from this educational institution. Strict action should be taken against the college principal,” she stated.
She also mentioned that the authorities of Dhaka Public School and College have taken all the main copies, including SSC certificates and other documents.
“Now we want to get back the main copies as well as the money we have given for the examination purpose. We have all the receipts with us,” she said.
When contacted about the allegations, the principal of Dhaka Public School and College, Alamgir Kabir, did not respond despite multiple calls over the past two days.
The aggrieved guardians also reported that the principal has been ignoring their calls. They plan to appeal to the Ministry of Education for justice and demand exemplary punishment for the college authorities.
In a separate incident in Tangail, at least 22 examinees were unable to attend the HSC examination because they could not pay additional fees demanded by Nikrail Shamsher Fakir Degree College.
The students refused to comply with the college’s demand for extra money. Lokman Hossain, a lecturer in the Bangla department, took Tk 3,000 from each of the 22 examinees for form fill-up, assuring them that everything was in order.
When the students went to the college for admit cards, the authority said that their forms had not been filled up. This incident led a vandalism of a centre in Tangail as well.
This students and guardians have also demanded exemplary punishment of the concerned authorities of the college.
