Families of the July Uprising martyrs staged a blockade at Shahbagh intersection in the capital on Thursday (February 6), demanding justice for Sheikh Hasina and state recognition for the victims of the uprising.

The protest began at around 11:15 AM, causing a complete halt to traffic in the Shahbagh area, leading to severe disruptions for commuters, patients, and pedestrians.

Protesters Demand Justice and Recognition Demonstrators, holding pictures of the martyrs and placards, demanded that Sheikh Hasina be brought back from India to face trial.

A protester stated, “We have gone door to door seeking justice for the genocide and state recognition for the martyrs, but instead of sympathy, we have only faced neglect and disrespect.”

The blockade has paralysed movement in the area, particularly affecting patients and their families visiting Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) and BARDEM General Hospital.

Despite assurances from the police that a meeting with the Chief Adviser would be arranged on Sunday, the protesters refused to leave, insisting that the meeting take place immediately.

As of 5 PM, the demonstration continued with no resolution in sight. Law enforcement remains on the scene, urging protesters to withdraw peacefully.
