Train services on the new Dhaka-Khulna route via the Padma Bridge will begin on December 24 with the aim to save time, allowing passengers to reach Khulna from Dhaka within four hours.
Advisor to the Railways Ministry Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan will inaugurate two pairs of passenger trains on this day, reads a press release signed by Railways Ministry’s Public Relations Officer Rezaul Karim Siddique on Wednesday.
The release said, “Two new pairs of passenger trains will begin operating from Dhaka to Khulna and Benapole via Kashiani Junction on December 24.
The ‘Jahanabad Express’ will run on the Khulna-Dhaka-Khulna route, while the ‘Ruposhi Bangla Express’ will operate on the Benapole-Dhaka-Benapole route. Both trains will run regularly with a weekly off. The new services will significantly save time, allowing passengers to reach Khulna or Benapole from Dhaka in just within four hours.”
Currently, travelling by train from Dhaka to Khulna via Tangail and Ishwardi takes around 9 hours and 30 minutes, while the journey to Benapole via Rajbari takes about 7 hours and 35 minutes. However, the new Dhaka-Khulna route via Padma Bridge will save passengers’ time. The trip to Khulna will take just 5 hours and 35 minutes, while reaching Benapole will take nearly 4 hours or less.
