The Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Karachi, SM Mahbubul Alam, has stated that direct flights between Bangladesh and Pakistan will be launched soon to bolster business relations and foster the ties with people of the two nations.
According to a report of Pakistani media outlet Express Tribune on Friday, Mahbubul Alam announced that an exhibition for importers and exporters from both countries would be organized in Hyderabad, in collaboration with the Hyderabad Chamber of Small Traders and Small Industry (HCSTSI).
During a visit to the Hyderabad Chamber, he extended an invitation to the business community to participate in the Annual Trade Exhibition scheduled to take place in Dhaka in January 2025.
The Deputy High Commissioner assured them that the visa process would be streamlined to ensure their smooth participation.
He highlighted that Bangladesh’s interim government Chief Adviser, Professor Muhammad Yunus, had stressed the importance of tapping into the potential to boost trade with Pakistan.
Alam emphasized that Bangladesh is an increasingly attractive market and encouraged the HCSTSI to send a delegation to Dhaka.
He also committed to overseeing and expediting the visa process for traders to facilitate their involvement.
The deputy high commissioner mentioned that Bangladesh was exporting its products to 80 countries, generating billions of dollars in revenue.
However, he underscored the need for further expansion through stronger trade relations with Pakistan.
Addressing the event, HCSTSI President Muhammad Saleem Memon remarked that Pakistan-Bangladesh relations were rooted in the shared history, culture and trade.
He highlighted the significant progress in trade ties, including the milestone achieved on November 11, when the first-ever direct cargo shipment was successfully made from Pakistan to Bangladesh.
