Dar, Touhid meets at Doha: Dhaka-Islamabad express support for Palestinian cause
Staff Reporter :
Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, held a pull-aside meeting with Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain on the sidelines of the Emergency Arab-Islamic Summit preparatory session in Doha.
According to Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, the two sides condemned recent Israeli strikes on Gaza and reiterated “unwavering support” for the Palestinian cause.
They also underlined the need for unity among Muslim nations in responding to regional crises.
The meeting was announced by Islamabad, but Dhaka has not issued any statement on the interaction.
Relations between Bangladesh and Pakistan have been gaining new momentum in recent times soon after the toppling of Sheikh Hasina government in July uprising last year.
Both countries are now increasing high-level engagement in recent time. Ishaq Dar has recently visited Dhaka and engaged in various talks with the government and other stakeholders to focus on trade and people-to-people contacts.
Against that backdrop, the Doha encounter signals an attempt by Islamabad to engage Dhaka on shared issues within multilateral platforms.
