Dhaka International Trade Fair renamed

Business Report :

The name of the Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) has officially been changed to Dhaka Trade Fair (DTF).

Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin announced the decision of renaming the International Trade fair while presiding over the 148th board meeting of the Export Promotion Bureau on Monday.

He stated that expanding the market for Bangladeshi products is essential and participation in fairs must be effective. Focus should be on boosting trade and ensuring national development.

The fair, launched in 1995, aimed to bring together international and local buyers and sellers, allowing foreign companies to showcase quality products and technologies.

However, it has been observed that many foreign participants join through local agents instead of direct representation or embassies.

Meeting sources said that indirect participation often leads to concerns over product authenticity and quality. Even, substandard local items are falsely marketed as international brands, misleading buyers and damaging the fair’s international reputation.

As a result, foreign buyers and visitors are losing their interest and local entrepreneurs miss opportunities to learn about global trends and technologies.

Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman, Vice Chairman of Export Promotion Bureau Md Anwar Hossain, Additional Secretary (Export) Abdur Rahim Khan, President of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Mahmud Hasan Khan, and President of Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Kamran Tanvir Rahman were present in the meeting.

The meeting approved the fair calendar for the fiscal year 2025-2026 and a partial fair calendar for 2026-2027 for participation in the international trade fairs under the management of the Export Promotion Bureau.

To support export growth and market diversification, the Export Promotion Bureau will organize an international sourcing fair titled ‘Sourcing Bangladesh 2025’ in November.

The commerce secretary emphasized the importance of such events and called for increased promotion through Bangladesh’s foreign missions.
