The Chief Adviser’s Press Wing has strongly denied claims made by an Indian newspaper regarding the alleged revival of an ULFA camp near the Assam border in Bangladesh, with the support of Pakistan’s ISI, describing the report as entirely false and without foundation.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Press Wing criticised The Tribune, a New Delhi-based newspaper, for publishing an article titled “ISI, Bangladesh Operatives Teaming Up to Revive ULFA Camps Near Assam Border”.

The statement stressed that the article lacked credible sources and evidence, labelling it as part of a wider pattern of misinformation targeting Bangladesh following the ousting of Sheikh Hasina’s government.

“The Tribune newspaper in New Delhi has published a front-page story making serious allegations without providing any substantiating evidence or verifiable sources,” the statement read. “Like other reports of this nature, the story is based on speculation and unfounded assumptions.”

The Press Wing pointed out that the only quoted source in the article, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, had stated that he did not believe ULFA leader Paresh Baruah had any intention of resuming militant activities.

The statement also highlighted inaccuracies in The Tribune’s report, including its claim that intelligence agencies suspected Baruah “may soon be released,” despite the fact that he is already at large and believed to be residing in China. Furthermore, the Press Wing challenged the newspaper’s assertion that intercepted communications in Bangladesh were in Arabic, Urdu, and Bengali, describing such claims as implausible and misleading.

“This story is pure fiction and will remain ‘exclusive’ to The Tribune because it exists only in the imaginations of its staff,” the statement concluded.

The government’s strong response reflects Bangladesh’s firm stance against misinformation and its commitment to addressing baseless allegations that seek to misrepresent the country’s security situation.
