Ahead of the upcoming weekend and government holiday, people from various walks of life are leaving Dhaka, resulting in crowded scenes at different bus, train, and launch terminals in the capital.
The influx of passengers began on Thursday evening at various terminals in Dhaka, reports UNB.
Increased activity around Kamalapur train station, Sadarghat launch terminal, as well as Syedabad, Fakirapool, and Gabtali bus terminals in the capital was witnessed between Thursday evening and Friday morning.
Passengers revealed that many families are taking advantage of their children’s school holidays and exams being completed by December. Consequently, a significant number of people are traveling to their village homes, planning for an extended weekend.
Friday morning showed an influx of returning passengers in public transport at various points across the capital. High traffic volume was observed toward Sayedabad, Jatrabari, Kamalapur, Sadarghat, Mohakhali, and Gabtoli.
Passengers opted for buses, trains, or launches to reach their destinations. Additionally, Kamalapur railway station in the capital experienced a surge in passenger activity in the morning.
Abu Haider, a government employee traveling to Jessore with his family on the Sundarban Express from Kamalapur railway station, shared that with the children’s school closed, he is utilizing an extra two days of leave along with the weekend to visit the village home.
Al Amin Shaon, a private employee heading to Comilla by Asia Aircon bus from Arambagh, mentioned that due to various commitments, he doesn’t get to visit home frequently.
Taking advantage of the two-day weekend and reduced office workload in December, he plans to spend time with his family and children at the village home, enjoying winter festivities.
