Bangladesh has sharply condemned Israel’s airstrike on the Qatari capital, Doha, describing it as a blatant violation of sovereignty, international law, and the UN Charter.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the Government of Bangladesh “unequivocally condemns the recent Israeli military aggression against the State of Qatar,” calling it both unlawful and unprovoked.
Dhaka reaffirmed what it called its “steadfast solidarity” with the Government and people of Qatar, stressing that Israel’s actions undermine regional stability, international peace, and global efforts to uphold the rule of law.
“Such actions constitute a clear violation of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Qatar, as well as of international law and the principles of the UN Charter,” Foreign Ministry said.
“The incident is yet another indication of Israel’s continued disregard for regional stability, international peace, and established international norms. Such actions undermine global efforts towards peace and security,” it added.
The statement urged the United Nations and other international stakeholders to ensure accountability for what it described as an unprovoked attack and a direct assault on the principles of multilateralism. The strike, which took place on September 9, marked one of Israel’s most audacious cross-border operations in recent years. Israeli warplanes targeted senior Hamas leaders who were in Doha for ceasefire talks.
The assault, codenamed “Summit of Fire,” left at least six people dead, among them the son of Hamas negotiator Khalil al-Hayya and a Qatari security officer.
While Hamas leaders reportedly survived, the strike delivered a major blow to Qatar’s role as mediator and disrupted sensitive talks aimed at halting the Gaza conflict.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu later confirmed he had authorised the mission, insisting it was necessary to eliminate what he described as masterminds behind ongoing attacks against Israel.
For Qatar, the operation was nothing less than a violation of its sovereignty. Officials in Doha denounced the airstrike as a cowardly and criminal act that not only endangered national security but also derailed ongoing diplomatic efforts.
Qatari authorities further alleged that they had only been warned after the explosions had begun, directly contradicting Israeli and U.S. claims that advance notice had been given.
The international response was immediate and overwhelmingly critical. The United Nations described the attack as a breach of international law and called for restraint.
Regional powers including Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Iran, and Egypt voiced strong condemnation, accusing Israel of recklessness and destabilizing the region.
European leaders expressed deep concern over the disruption of ceasefire negotiations, warning that such unilateral action jeopardized fragile prospects for peace in Gaza.
In Washington, President Donald Trump took a notably critical stance. Speaking to reporters, he said he was “very unhappy” with the Israeli strike, describing it as “unfortunate” and a move that “does not advance either Israel’s or America’s goals.”
White House press secretary says President Donald Trump was notified by the US military of Israel’s strike on Hamas in Doha and ordered Qatar to be warned before the attack.
Qatar, however, denies the White House claim that Trump sent warning before the Israel’s attack.
Against this backdrop, Bangladesh’s condemnation aligns with its long-standing foreign policy stance in support of Palestinian rights and Arab sovereignty. The statement called on the United Nations to act decisively, arguing that it was time to hold perpetrators accountable and to reinforce the authority of international law.
