Dhaka Abahani Limited edged past Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited by a solitary goal in their Group-B match of the Federation Cup Football at Martyr Dhirendranath Dutta Stadium in Cumilla on Tuesday.
Dhaka Abahani Lmited and Rahmatganj MFS collected six points each playing two matches, while Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited earned three points playing three matches.
After the lemon-break, Mohammad Ibrahim of Dhaka Abahani Limited scored the all-important goal by a placing shot using a cross of his teammate Shahriar Emon in the 74th minute of the play.
Mohammedan’s key player Souleymane Diabate played the match but he failed to show his as usual performance.
Dhaka Abahani Limited got the first chance in the 19th minute. Shahriar Emon entered the D-box and struck the ball but Mohammedan defender Mehedi Hasan cleared the ball.
Mohammedan got their first chance in the 36th minute but Arif failed to head the ball as Abahani goalie Mitul Marma thwarted the chance by fist the ball.
After two minutes, Abahani’s defender Kamrul Islam cleared the ball before Diabate shot the ball.
In the 86th minute, Mohammad Jewel hit a flag-kick but Diabate failed to head the ball.
In the injury time of the second half, Mohammedan custodian Mohammad Sujon saved their team to concede another goal.
Dhaka Abahani Limited are comparatively weaker side than Mohammedan but they presented a better brand of football as their Head Coach Maruful Haque trained his boys really well.
Meanwhile, Chittagong Abahani Limited drew 2-2 goals with Youngmens Club Fakirerpool at Rafique Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium in Mymensingh on the same day.
Saiful, Sabuz of Chittagong Abahani Limited scored one goal each, while Akbar and Tudu of Fakirerpool netted one goal each.
