Chattogram Bureau :
Dewan Square, a 6-storey commercial building of Sultan Ahmad Dewan Waqf Estate, which falls within the alignment of Patenga Elevated Expressway from Lalkhan Bazar in the Port City, has finally been handed over to the contractor. On Saturday, the Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) raided the building and told the auctioneer to demolish it.
However, because a building with six floors was sold for only Tk13 lakh, various departments including ACC have complained. It is said that a syndicate organised around the auction event called the auction for just Tk13 lakh without mentioning the actual price of the building worth several crores taka.
According to CDA sources, Dewan Square, a 6-storey commercial building of Sultan Ahmad Dewan Waqf Estate, falls in the alignment of the elevated expressway from Lalkhan Bazar to Patenga in the Port City.
The building was under the control of the State Wakf of the Ministry of Religion. The demolition of the building became necessary as it fell on the alignment of CDA’s elevated expressway.
