The road from Dewan Bazar to Dayamir in Balaganj upazila of Sylhet has finally come under renovation. After a long period of suffering and complaints, the renovation work has started in the Balaganj section of this road, which is about five kilometers long, and relief has returned to the locals. The renovation work began on Thursday (August 21).
On August 12, a local daily in Sylhet published a news report titled “The pothole-filled road is like a ‘river of sorrow’.” Then the authorities concerned took notice.
At one time, this road turned into a ‘river of sorrow’ during the rainy season. From the Gaharpur Post Office to Madrasa Bazar, around the house of local Habib Mia, and from the eastern side of Ichamati village to the Dhaka-Sylhet highway junction, the movement of pedestrians and vehicles became difficult due to numerous potholes and potholes. Accidents and risks were a daily occurrence.
Currently, renovation work has begun on about half of the road, that is, from Madrasa Bazar in the Balaganj section to Morar Bazar. Earlier, work started from Alikha to Madrasa Bazar, but it was stopped midway.
The locals demand that this time the work be completed quickly and with quality.
During the conversation, Maulana Abdul Qayyum, General Secretary of the Madrasa Bazar Management Committee, said that traveling on this road for years was a pain. Now that the work has started, we are seeing a ray of hope.
CNG driver Mamun Mia said that we had to take risks with our cars every day. If the road is renovated, the suffering of the passengers will also be reduced to a great extent.
Mashhud Ahmed, headmaster of Chhimirun Nesa Government Primary School, said that till now it was very difficult to travel to and from school through this road. If it is renovated, it will be much safer for the public.
In this regard, Balaganj Upazila Deputy Assistant Engineer Pradeep Dev Nath said that the road work has started. Currently, the work will be completed from Madrasa Bazar to Morar Bazar. For now, the RCC work will be completed and the next phase of work will be done.
Meanwhile, the locals hope that if the renovation work is completed quickly and in a quality manner, this important road will come back to life, ending many years of suffering.
