Devastating Fire Guts Yarn Mill in Tangail, Tk 1 Crore Loss Feared

A devastating fire broke out at a yarn mill in Hajinagar area of Gunogram under Ghatail upazila in Tangail on Thursday night, causing an estimated loss of around Tk 1 crore.

According to eyewitnesses and workers, smoke and flames were first noticed inside the mill at around 10:30 PM. Locals initially tried to extinguish the fire, but failed to bring it under control. On information, a unit from Ghatail Fire Service rushed to the spot and began efforts to douse the blaze. Subsequently, three more units from Ghatail and Kalihati joined the operation.

After a three-and-a-half-hour-long effort, firefighters managed to bring the fire under control. Ratan Kumar Debnath, Warehouse Inspector of Ghatail Fire Service and Civil Defence, said, “Two of our units worked to contain the fire. Preliminary investigation suggests that an electrical short circuit may have triggered the blaze.”

No casualties were reported in the incident. However, authorities are assessing the full extent of the damage.
