A massive fire broke out at a plastic factory in Fatullah, Narayanganj, due to fireworks. Six units of the fire service worked for nearly an hour to bring the blaze under control.
The fire occurred late Tuesday night at Madina Traders, a plastic factory in the Lalpur area of Fatullah police station in Sadar Upazila.
According to local residents, a large number of fireworks were set off at a birthday celebration inside the China-funded Muktarpur-Panchabati double-decker road project under construction in the Panchabati area of Fatullah.
Sparks from the fireworks landed on the nearby plastic factory in Lalpur, igniting the fire. Within moments, the flames spread across the tin-roofed factory, engulfing it in a massive blaze. The intense flames and thick smoke created panic among the residents, causing them to flee in fear.
Upon receiving the news, six fire service units from Mandalpara, Hajiganj, and Fatullah rushed to the scene and began firefighting operations.
After about an hour of effort, the fire was completely brought under control at around 2:15 AM. By then, a significant amount of stored plastic, cartons, and raw materials had been destroyed. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
According to local sources, the factory specialized in melting old plastic to produce pellets used in garment packaging.
Speaking about the incident, Abdullah Al Arefin, Deputy Assistant Director of Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defense, stated, We received the fire alert at 2:17 AM. Immediately, six units from three different stations started firefighting efforts. By 2:15 AM, we managed to fully extinguish the fire.
Although no one was injured, large quantities of plastic, cones, cartons, and raw materials were destroyed. The exact extent of the damage will be determined after an investigation.
