A Dhaka court on Sunday placed Desh TV Managing Director (MD) Arif Hasan on a two-day remand in a case over an alleged attempted murder case.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahin Reza passed the order on Sunday noon.
Earlier, Abu Saeed, Sub-Inspector of Airport Police Station in the capital, also the Investigation Officer of the case, produced him before the court seeking a three-day remand, reports UNB.
The investigation officer mentioned Arif Hasan as Awami League’s money supplier in the remand plea.
Tuhin Hawaladar, the lawyer representing Arif Hasan, stated, “We too seek a trial for this incident. However, those responsible for the act, and those directly involved, should be held accountable. The state party has provided numerous stories, but there must be a valid reason for his remand. My client was in Singapore at the time the incident occurred.
“Arif Hasan was arrested at the airport while on his way to perform Umrah. We are seeking justice. If he is found to have any involvement in the incident, we will have nothing further to say.”
Advocate Tuhin also highlighted his client’s health concerns, stating, “My client is suffering from a serious, life-threatening illness, and I am requesting that his remand be canceled on these grounds.”
Earlier on Saturday, Arif Hasan was detained at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Saturday night as he tried to board a plane. On information, airport police arrested him.
Arif is accused in an attempted murder case filed with the Airport Police Station during the recent student-led movement.
Arif Hasan holds the general secretary post of the Association of Television Channel Owners (ATCO).
