Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet Mohammad Sher Mahbub Murad inaugurated the tree plantation program-2025 organized by the upazila administration in Jaintapur Upazila of Sylhet.
On Tuesday (July 29) at 4 pm, he inaugurated the tree plantation program by planting betel nut saplings on the khas land of Dibirhaor Mouza adjacent to the Lalshapla Beel area of Dibirhaor, one of the tourist spots of Dibirhaor Upazila.
Under the programme, a total of ten thousand betel nut saplings will be planted on 13.69 acres of khas land in the said Mouza.
Also present at the inauguration of the tree plantation program were Deputy Director of the District Local Government, Suborna Sarkar, Divisional Forest Officer Md. Humayun Kabir, Jaintapur Upazila Nirbahi Officer George Mitra Chakma, Jaintapur Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Farzana Akhter Laboni, officials of various departments, officials of the Sari Bit Range and local media workers.
While talking to reporters, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Sher Mahbub Murad said that the process of planting a total of 130,000 saplings, 10,000 in each upazila, has already started. More than 200,000 trees will be planted in the entire district in phases. He also said that the district administration has far-reaching plans for the development of the DBirhaor Shapla Beel. In particular, initiatives will be taken to widen the road to Shapla Beel, increase various facilities including restaurants for tourists. He thanked everyone for the spontaneous participation of the local people present.
