Deposed dictator’s ghosts spreading confusions: Tarique

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman on Wednesday urged the country men to be vigilant saying the ghosts of the deposed dictator are spreading confusions across the country.

He said also that the plotters also have engaged in various unethical activities using the name of BNP.

“The tyrant ruler has been thrown out. But the ghosts of the dictator are still roaming around. So, they are trying to spread various confusions. Many of them have been involved in various unethical activities, using the name of this party (BNP),” the Acting Chairman said.

Tarique Rahman said it while was addressing a public rally at Gopalpur Upazila of Tangail district, through a virtual platform.

The rally was organised on Suti VM Pilot Model Government High School ground in Gopalpur demanding the release of BNP leader Abdus Salam Pintu.

“There will be no profit from this conspiracy. The democracy-loving people of Bangladesh and the true soldiers of martyred president Ziaur Rahman and Khaleda Zia will forge protest and resistance against it and give a befitting reply to this conspiracy in any way,” Tarique Rahman said. The BNP acting chairman said his party’s goal is to ensure political freedom and simultaneous economic emancipation for the people of the country.

Tarique Rahman demanded the release of all leaders and activists including Abdus Salam Pintu of BNP and also other opposition parties, who have been kept detained in jail in ‘false’ cases.

BNP leaders Ahmed Azam Khan and Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, Tangail district BNP president Hasanuzzaman Shaheen and its general secretary Farhad Iqbal, among others, addressed the event presided over by Gopalpur Upazila BNP president Jahangir Alam.

Apart from these, the BNP on Wednesday announced a two-day programme to pay homage in memory of those who were killed in the movements against authoritarian rule over the past 17 years and to mark International Democracy Day.

BNP Standing Committee Member Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain made the announcement at a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office.

As part of the programmes, he said a memorial rally will be held at the Central Shaheed Minar on September 14 (Saturday) to pay tribute to those who lost their lives in the recent student-led mass uprising and the struggle against authoritarianism over the past 17 years.

Zahid said the meeting will take place from 3 pm to 5 pm.
Besides, he said party will organise a rally to mark International Democracy Day the following day on Sunday (September 15).

The venue of the rally has not yet been decided, but the party wants to arrange it either at Nayapaltan or at Suhrawardy Udyan.
